BME Health Forum

In partnership with Central London and West London CCGs we commission the BME Health Forum to facilitate a space for diverse individuals, groups and organisations from the community and voluntary sector and statutory sector who have a shared interest in the health care needs and provision of services to BME communities. The forum director works with community and voluntary sector groups to run twelve engagement workshops per year between the CCG and different BAME groups. Where needed, a trusted community leader acts as interpreter.

Examples of workshop topics in 2018-19 include: what people want from integrated care; what the CCG's equality objectives should cover; and community-led topics.

Evidence shows that BME communities, commissioners and providers benefit from an independent facilitator in engaging with BME communities regarding health issues. The objectives of the service are to empower and enable BME communities to engage with and influence commissioners and providers; to improve commissioner and provider understanding of and response to the needs of BME communities; to improve communication between BME community organisations, commissioners and providers; to develop a continuous strategy for sustained activity following the lifecycle of this initiative; and to contribute towards the evidence base relating to the contribution of involvement mechanisms in improving health and well-being.

The BME Health Forum helps the CCG to deliver against the EDS2 framework in a meaningful way by ensuring that we involve and hear the voices of diverse communities when working on achieving better health outcomes and patient experience for these communities. You can read the EDS2 framework in full online.

The BME Health Forum works with the CCGs to identify topics for the quarterly forum and maintains a database which supports the CCGs.
